5 POLISH DESIGN LABELS TO KNOW NOW

18 March 2018

Magda Butrym is definitely the influencer favorite worldwide. No one can combine romantic and rock-n-roll like she can. It gives me a particular puff of pride to see a Polish designer on Net-a-Porter! And I can’t help waiting to see more Polish labels achieving that same level of success. Fashion design ‘made in Poland’ is nothing to sniff at – it’s fresh, unpretentious and excellent quality. Here’s my selection of sublime design labels from my homeland!

SON TRAVA: BLACK SEA RESORT

Son Travit’s designs blend a wonder for the natural world with its founders Russian heritage. Inspired by a bohemian spirit and summers spent in a dacha on the Black Sea, the duo creates sublime dresses, blouses and pyjamas in fine fabrics that bring back the vibe of the ‘20s. Their intricate patterns and styles are a lesson on how everyday dressing doesn’t have to boring. In fact, Son Trava’s designers believe in celebrating the quotidian with beautiful clothing. The long, romantic dresses are reminiscent of Chloe’s best work. Son Trava’s homewear styles just beg to be paired with a motorcycle jacket. With an ounce of Russian decadence for an uplifted daily look.

KOPI: LOVE FOR DETAIL

The characteristic motif of the eyes, palms and nature are Natalia Kopiszki’s trademark. Her KOPI brand manufactures delicate gold necklaces and animal-print scarves that even Jane Birkin could love. Her vintage-inspired campaigns have drawn a great deal of attention – not just in Poland. She’s also created a signature collection of earrings with the LUI Store in Warsaw, called LUI X KOPI. She’s the first Polish jewelry designer whose designs are sold in Urban Outfitters’ online store – and always sold out. She says, “I’m making my biggest dreams come true small step by step. As soon as I achieve a goal, I set myself up with another”.

LE SONGE: SLUMBERING DREAMS

Their personalised silk pyjamas were an instant hit on Instagram. Fine fabrics combined with a minimalist aesthetic garnered the label a solid fanbase. Their shifts, pyjama shifts and knits are idea for relaxed evenings at home. Even when the prints are wild, they’re always tempered with a sharp sense of good taste. Website: LE SONGE.

DUNST: PERFECTLY TRANSPARENT

Here, see-through is not a marketing ploy, but the label’s true style philosophy. DUNST’s motto clearly states: it’s all about what’s underneath. There’s no room for compromise. All their styles are manufactured in Poland, ethically – with no animals or human harmed in the process. They redefine the idea of the classic. Their t-shirts or coats are anything but. There are always astonishing patterns and functions hidden within. A shirt can be adjusted to a certain mood, making it longer or shorter. The label’s designers aren’t afraid to experiment with scale and asymmetry. The main pillars of their business is ethics and functionality – every piece is thoroughly tested for comfort and ease of wear before going to market.

ANDERS LABEL: SWEET EIGHTIES

Anders Label gulps up cool sips of the style of the ‘80s and ‘90s to deliver a unique assortment of silk shirts, wicker baskets, velvet ribbons, patterned scarves and wool bomber jackets. They typically produce just about a dozen of each model – quick-change and originality is written into the label’s DNA. Its vintage spirit infuses the details of every piece – from the characteristic cut and floral prints.
